Hi All Tim's remarks reminded me of another type of duplication which I have
found in my families (not Catley so far )
Individuals births were registerd under one set of names and baptised under
a different set of names , eg in one case child registered with the PRO as
Emma Elizabeth
becomes Elinor Jane but is always known asEmma presumably to please
relatives ?
For awhile I thought they were twins. It's just another trap to be aware of .

Subject: [CAT...] Double recordings in PRO
Hi everybody,
One of my tasks within Cat*ley research that I have set myself is to work
towards a 100% completion of being able to append all Cattley entries in
the UK, PRO list (BMD's) against a known Cattley Tree.
This exercise started some years ago now, using Gerald Coveneys Kew
Extracts of dedicated data and applying my own Tree info on to it. Two
things became very apparent: 1) That my very large tree held the bulk of
the early records from around 1840 but as time went on, it became clear
that: 2) That other trees individuals names progressively overtook my
tree in the records from about 1890 ish.
This was not really a surprise because I already knew how my own tree had
contracted in "output" per generation from around 1900
Have had a lot of help from Liz C, Glynis.B and Kay.H in accessing data
including the Catley PRO Lists to compliment the Cattley ones.
What has become very clear from cross checking both lists, is that one can
not rely on 100% accurate recording of correct spelling for any
individual. Glynis has found Catleys under Cattley recording and by the
same token, I have found known Cattleys registered under Catley.
Just to spice things up even more we have found evidence that in some
cases individuals look to be double recorded on both lists.
You may have already thought of this possibility for yourselves but if
not, it needs considering.
