Subject: [CAT...] Cattleys in Nova Scotia
Hello Glynis,
Re your comments on Canadian Census:-
We have over here on the 1881 UK Census a family of five Cattleys who I
can not fit into any of the 11 Cattley Trees that I have records on and I
wonder if you can give me some assistance from the Canadian end?
John Cattley (head)
Eliza Cattley (wife)
Mary Cattley (dau)
Ella Cattley (dau)
Ernest Cattley (son)
So: in 1881they were living in Kensington, London. The father was born in
1818, country not given but his wife and three children are recorded as
all born in Nova Scotia, 1842,1864,1866 and 1868 respectively.
Is there any way of identifying these persons whilst living there? From
your comments I conclude that there were possibly no Census undertaken in
Canada in the 1860/70's?
Maybe John went out to Canada in the 1860's as I can not think as to what
other reason a Canadian National (if he was one) would wish to pull up
sticks and come to the UK with his whole family. Kensington was at that
time quite a well to do part of London and so a passage from Halifax or
wherever in Nova Scotia to the UK and then residing in Kensington would
probably have been an expensive undertaking and am thus curious as to what
John did when out there?
Any ideas please?
