Hello Kay,
Thanks for your comments. Yes indeed, the interpretation can be that he
went out to Canada and married and then came back again complete with
family. Do not know about any Canadian Census.
As for Ellis Island:- I have proof positive as to how one has to be
objective as to information gathered from this source because a branch of my
family are recorded in it and it is easy to ASSUME that theirs was an
emigration (well most passages were) but not in their case, they were en
route from UK to Manchuria (China) via New York and Vancouver ports where
the husband P.O.Cattley had accepted a Mining Engineers job on a four year
contract.
As for Kensington: well it was certainly the right end of Town (West End) as
opposed to East End.
Chelsea...Knightsbridge...Kensington. All big Georgian houses with servants
quarters etc, very posh indeed.
Did not know of the Canadian web site, so thanks for that info too.
Appreciated you making direct contact with Marge in PA with the new Leeds
info. I have "cascaded" ( a new buzz word!?) the information to the daughter
of her 2nd cousin (all American contacts) because through no fault of Marge,
there seems to be a bit of a block on information filtering down to the next
generation over there and I think it important that such members should be
kept in the picture.
Have invited the lady concerned to join us on this site and hope that she
accepts.
Thanks for your help, appreciated as always. Tim C.
