Hello All.
The National Archives on line web site indicates under "Soldiers Service
Documents" for The Royal Hospital Chelsea that there is a file on record for George
William Cattley for the period 1843-1899.
He is listed as George William Cattley of St Mary's, Scarborough.
I have not searched the file concerned but my assumption is that possibly he was an
inpatient and thus a true Chelsea Pensioner and if this was the case, he would have had to
be a military veteran without any other means of support to qualify.
On the other hand he may have still lived in Scarborough and because of his military
service, may have received a small pension from the Hospital Trust.
I have ancestors on my Cattley Tree ex Scarborough but I do not recognise George William
as one of them but I do recall other listers mentioning Scarborough in correspondence and
thus hopefully this lead will be useful to someone?
