Have any others studied Mick Catleys e-mail into this List dated 15th September,
concerning Cat*ley passenger listings on arrival at New York?
Mick transcribed that which is available on
castlegarden.org and we owe him a vote of
thanks for doing so.
It makes interesting reading and the first impression I got was that here is the evidence
of a Catley part family tree emigration.
I forget now at this time of night, exactly which Catley family it was, who moved down to
South Wales and gained employment in the coal mines there, something tells me it was a
London clan but I could be wrong on that, However Micks list indicates that on the 17th
July 1882, it would appear that five members of the same Cattley family arrived in New
York on the SS Berlin
They were: Thomas and William aged 52 and 51, Eyrn aged 17 and George aged 16 plus Henry
aged 13.
In all cases, their place of origin is recorded as Wales and for Thomas,William and Eyrn,
their occupation is classified as Miners. George is indicated as "unknown" re
occupation whereas Henry at 13 years is simply recorded as "Child, Youngster"
This is surely the emigration of one whole male branch of Welsh Cattleys covering two
generations?
Does anybody have these persons on their Tree?
