Hello Liz,
I appreciate you taking time out to have a look in the Census records etc
for these Garforth Cat*leys.
If you have confirmation that William and Thomas were brothers, then that
settles the matter because it ties in exactly with some research that Kay
(H) has done on a number of Yorkshire Cat*ley families in an effort to
eliminate possibles and identify her own Yorkshire Catley roots.
All this just goes to show how one can not rely on single source information
which in this case is the Ellis Island, New York Emigration Authorities who
clearly made a mistake by identifying this Yorkshire family as Welsh!
I can pick up now on the trace you gave me, into Kay's data which traces
this line back to an Edmund Catley who married one Ann Burton in the
Yorkshire Parish of Bilton-in-Ainstey in 1748.
Thomas and William were the sons of John Catley (a Gt Grandson of Edmund)
who m Catherine Dawson in 1823 in Leeds, Yorkshire.
Kay has the progress of Thomas listed through his marriage to Ann Simpson
and their children which includes Amos who was of course the grandfather of
Marge Cattley of this Net.
I suspect that when Kay surfaces from her house move and has the time to
copy through our correspondence, she will have some comments to make on all
this ............ like self she probably had not picked up the possibility
that the two Cat*ley households indicated in the Garforth area Census 1881
(William and Thomas) related to two married brothers.
Many thanks Tim.

Hi Tim,
Looking through the census it would appear that Thomas and William where
brothers.
William was widowed in 81 and Thomas had a wife Ann. (nee Simpson)
I havent yet looked at the death records for Ann but could she have died
before they all went to America. Thomas and William where the sons of John
and Catherine Catley. Records show them using both spellings!!!!!!!!!!!!
Regards
Liz
