Hello Ted,
The spelling of the Cat*ley name within the Anstey Catleys does seem to have
bounced about a bit between the single and double T spelling over the
generations.
From what I can gather both your grandfather and great grandfather
were
recorded as Cattley but your gt grandfather Edmund (1835-1906) was a Catley
as was his father Edward (1811-1897) and most of Edwards brothers except for
Charles (1823-1871).
In Anstey Church yard there is a double grave, a husband and wife .......
second cousins by birth one Catley, the other a Cattley.
However I would not be any too concerned by the number of T's in the name,
it is the lineage that is of importance in my opinion.
Regards Tim Cattley

Hello Tim,
Thanks for your information on my Grandfathers Spelling of the TT's.I
visited my father today and and showed him your email, low and behold he
produced his first Dictionary given to him in 1930 by his parents. His Name
was spelt with one T,he then told me he always spelt it that way until he
began his apprenticeship with the Western Australian Railways as a
mechanical Fitter. He had to produce a Birth Certificate,so one was
obtained
from U.K and guess what you were right so from that time on he has
used
TT's
Regards
Ted.
