Cheers Mick,
Thanks for the information, much appreciated indeed but as always, the more
that comes in, the more questions raised!
I do not think that your input has a bearing on my specific query but it
does obviously hilight what appears to be a family exodus to the USA but
also a return again.
This is the second time in one week that I have picked up on what seemed to
be final immigrations to the USA from here in the UK, that turned into
"returns" to the 'Old Country'.
One naturally assumes that in the 1800's, immigrations ex UK were "final"
but there seems to be plenty of evidence to show that this was not always
the case. Your input illustrates this very well.
On my Tree we have an amazing trace:- young married Cattley couple leave UK
for Canada, they have 4 children, the two youngest die from TB and buried
there. The mother catches it too and the remaining four members return to
UK. The mother dies in UK and the following year, the widower Cattley plus
his two surviving children re immigrate, this time to New Zealand and settle
there. Later a grandson in adult life travels to Australia and there meets
an American lady and they travel back to her home territory in Seattle, USA
where they marry. They then turn East and finally settle in the State of
Maine not many miles from the Canadian border and where his grandparents
first immigrated to. Thus the route taken by these Cattleys is:- England -
Canada - England - New Zealand - Australia - West Coast USA - East Coast
USA.
Your information is nevertheless most welcome in that it further confirms
the fact that there was a big conglomeration of Cat*ley families in the
Leeds area that still need to be unraveled.
Kay Heath is now at large somewhere in the UK visiting friends and relations
and I know is due to do a hit on the Leeds Archives, looking for her own
ancestry there. Hopefully she will glean lateral info which will encompass
key starter links with some of these numerous Leeds Cat*leys.
Regards and thanks again for your help. Timcatt

G'day again Tim,
I hope I have got it right this time.
I do not have any information on James W Catley born Leeds ca 1863.
However as a longshot there might be a connection with James Catley
who appears in the following 1881 census record taken from the LDS
Family History and Genealogy Site. There is a USA connection,
possibly involving a movement to the USA and a return to Leeds at an early
age.
