Hello Marge (and Kay)
I have been having a look at your Tree information as supplied to me by your brother Louis
and also that from James Marshall who as we now know, is one of your five 2nd cousins.
The cross reference information all fits together from both sources (which is of course
how I managed to knit the two into one main Tree) but I have been suspicious for some
time, that the names and dates given for ancestors prior to emigration to the USA is not
quite correct.
Your Gt Gt Grandfather John Catley is shown as marrying Catherine Dawson and I have found
reference to this in that it took place at St Peters Church in Leeds, by the way, on 2nd
December 1823 not 1820 as quoted. I have been looking for his son Thomas who was supposed
to have married an Ann Simpson (year unknown) but instead I find a Thomas who married,
also in St Peters in January 1834 to a Mary Bullance.
I was not aware as to when the emigration to Pennsylvania took place but am surprised to
find that the whole family (ie your grandfather Amos and all his siblings) are shown as
resident here in the UK as late as to be on the 1881 Census. Their address is given as
dwelling at "Moor Garforth" in the then village of Garforth which is some six
miles from Leeds City centre today.
I will have a closer look for you soon but I think that maybe Louis and James have dropped
a generation somewhere along the line
Our faithful Kay is due to hit the Leeds archives when she next visits ex Aussie in March
and possibly she will be able to collate much better direct extract information which will
hopefully give you positive results and confirmation.
Regards Tim
