This relates to one of my ancestors Robert Cattley of Lime Street, London
1720-1798 who was an early member of Lloyds of London when indeed they
conducted their Shipping Insurance business from "Lloyds Coffee House".
My marine history is not that good so I will have to look up which naval
battle is involved here. It just goes to show that the Royal Navy had other
commanders than Nelson who could give the French a drubbing!

listed, all
of whom each gave £10 10s - read on.....

At a GENERAL MEETING of the SUB-
SCRIBERS and FREQUENTERS of this COFFE-
HOUSE, held here this DAY,
"The regular Business being dispatched, it is with inexpres-
sible pleasure they congratulate the Country on the glorious
News which have been announced by a complete VICTORY
obtained by EARL HOWE, and the Fleet under his Lordship's
command, over that of the Enemy, on the 28thh of May, and Ist
instant.
"And in token of their Gratitude to the brave Seamen and
Soldiers who have fallen in Action, they recommend a SUB-
SCRIPTION may be opened for the RELIEF of the WIDOWS
and CHILDREN of the Warrant and Petty Officers, Seamen
and soldiers who fell gloriously in the Service of their King and
Country, and that a Committee be forwith appointed to con-
duct the same."
Subscriptions will be thankfully received by Mr, Thomas
Tayler, at the Bar of this House.
