Hi Tim
I've had a look at this and checked the e mail of a couple of weeks ago, but
the only one I could find mentioned was Ernest E Catley of Surrey who as far
as I am aware, doesn't have a connection (so far!) with the Wiltshire etc
branch.
I do have a Henry Charles in my Tree, but he is shown as a 'Cadley' rather
than Catley, and I have checked Documents Online and sure enough he was
awarded WW1 medals and did serve in the Dorset Regiment as a Bombadier, and
in other regiments too.
Confusingly though, a branch of the Somerset Catley's moved to Poole and
Christchurch in Dorset at the end of the last century, I think. I have only
found this out this afternoon where I've been trying to track down whether
this medal is 'ours' or not. It seems that Sabina Catley was born in
Wincanton March 1879 quarter but married in Poole June 1905 quarter, Henry
Catley was born in Clutton during 1886 and married in Poole June 1906
quarter, Amy M T Catley was born Dec 1881 quarter in Clutton and married in
Poole September quarter 1915. There are probably others from this family,
and it could be that the medal belongs to this Somerset branch rather than
us, particularly as 'my' Henry is also shown as Cadley at the time of his
marriage in 1939.
I hope this is helpful - I have queried with the seller whether he's sure
the surname is 'Catley' rather than 'Cadley' but haven't had a
response so
far.
Happy New Year by the way!

Subject: [CATLEY] Private H.C.Catley's WW1 Medal (s)
Hi All,
For those of you that do not monitor E-Bay:-
Just to let you know that the British War Medal of Private H.C.Catley of the
Dorset Regiment
is still on offer at £18.99p plus £2.00 post and packing.
Close of auction is 8th January 2007.
A couple of weeks ago now I telegraphed that at that time, there were three
medals of his being
offered together.
Now there is just one and the collection is split up forever.
What a pity that either nobody from H.C.Catleys Tree is monitoring this web
site or, that if
they are, that they do not yet know of a connection and thus have lost a
grand opportunity to keep
a bit of history in the Family.
Regards
Timcatt
