Hello Marge,
There are many rumours concerning the Cattleys most of which are unfounded I
am afraid, like the one that the part of the family spelt Catley were sheep
rustlers and banished with a name change for their wrong doings. That is
obviously daft because it appears that the name originated quite separately
in different parts of the country and there is no evidence that we all stem
from one common link.
Likewise I fear that the story about free tutorials at Jesus College
Cambridge is also a myth and there have been many Cattleys on my family tree
that went to either Oxford or Cambridge Universities and of course,if the
story was true all of them would only have gone to Jesus, Cambridge!
I have attempted further contact with James Marshall Cattley and have even
sent to him the family tree update from Edmund Catley onwards, in the hope
that it would excite him enough to communicate and at the same time passed
on your message about wishing to correspond again. However I have not had
any reply whatsoever which is a bit disheartening.
The only person on that branch who seems interested in any sort of contact
is his daughter Denise and so I have sent her the information too and am
waiting to see what this brings.
In the absence of any male on your side of the family who is willing to do a
Y chromosome 37 marker test, I have asked Denise if she thinks that her
brother would be interested?
Regards and have a Happy New Year
Tim

Dear Tim,
I read somewhere in one of the letters to rootsweb that if you were a
Cattley and
could prove it you could go to Jesus College at Cambridge for
free. Is this true?
Just curious as my niece is studying there at Oxford and I thought it
interesting enough to tell her as a light discussion.

Happy New Year all,
Jon has reminded me that rootsweb does not accept attachments and thus the
IGI
London data will not have gone through.
If anybody else wants the 49 entries I found, please ask, otherwise the
information
will appear in due course on Chris' , Catley Database.
Regards
Timcatt
