Hi Jan,
Good to hear from you and no, being in NSW Aus, does not present a problem.
Kay.H. is "down under" as well but with the amount of email traffic running
between herself/Liz.C./myself, it often feels as if she is just up the road!
You say you thought that the Anstey line was already being researched, well
so did I some time ago, but in the last few years we have had almost nil
correspondence about it on this site except for the likes of your goodself
and other stalwarts who are looking into the emigration branches etc from
the main Barley beginnings.
Having said that, I suppose now that someone will pop out of the woodwork
and prove me wrong and I hope this turns out to be the case because if there
are Anstey researchers out there, they are either "sleepers" on Catley
Rootsweb or have not found us yet?
I found Elaine on Genes Reunited and she seems to have got back to James and
Alice all by herself from what I can gather which is no mean achievement and
I am hoping that maybe she will expand her searches/interests to the full
tree in time.
I will send you what I have drawn up for your perusal and comments, what I
have done is to concentrate on mapping out the branches/sub branches and
trying to get the structure of the tree correct, as such I have omitted
"clutter" such as dates of birth and just noted the year of B/M/D.
As such, the data looks a bit skeletal but that is intentional, the detail
can be reinserted later.
Please do let me know what you think.
Cheers
Timcatt

Hi Tim,
Jann P here! I'd love a copy of what ever data you have from this side of
the Catley tree and I could help with what ever you think needs doing with
it.
Thanks for trying to get something happening with it all! The only reason
I
have stayed with the Tassie lot is that I thought the Anstey tree
was
already being researched.
Just to keep my CATLEY research in perspective - I have been given quite a
bit by Pat in Tassie and Dennis in NZ and Mick as well. So I guess my
small
amount of research has been simply added to the bulk of others - many
thank
to all of them!
I have been helped so much by Catley researchers that if I can help out
with
your request that would be great - I could give something back - as
long
as
being here in NSW Australia is not going to be a hassle for you.
Kind regards to all and please let me know if I can be of help,
Jann Sutton Parkes

Subject: [CATLEY] James Catley of Barley family tree c 1709
Hello all,
Recent contact with Elaine who is a descendent of James Catley of Barley m
Alice 1709, has set me thinking that we do not appear to have any listers
who are active on Anstey Tree research?
The Anstey line is a main branch of the James of Barley (Hertfordshire)
overall tree and whilst we have Mick who is covering all Herts+Cambs
Cat*leys and Jann.P.who is specialising on the Tasmanian connection plus
quite a few others looking into the Tisbury and Cadley connections plus
Bristol and also emigrations to both South Australia and New South Wales,
nobody seems interested in the UK Anstey line as a whole?
I have made contact here in the UK by researching a bit, with some five
Anstey (non Listers) Cat*leys but none of them are sufficiently interested
in taking up the cause which is a great shame.
There is data floating about from one Roger (Richard?) Tamplin the one
time
Vicar of Anstey Church who searched the Anstey Parish Records and of
course
Candis Lee Cattley-Sanders who has a web site which covers the main
genealogy but there are errors and omissions in both works which were done
some time ago now.
Is there anybody out there who is interested in the overall James of
Barley
tree which includes the Anstey side?
By playing around with Chris' Catley Database (1881 Census) and the IGI's
for Herts/Essex plus frontracking by writing to current London based
Cattleys, I have managed to come up with a hitherto "lost Anstey branch"
which went into London's East End (as did so many other Catley tree
members)
and coincidentally, this ties up with Elaine's researches.
I have lumped all the data from Barley and Barkway plus Anstey, through to
Tisbury and Bristol and thence on to Hobart plus the New South Wales and
South Australia together into one workable major tree. Anyone want a copy?
It is not definitive but a blend of donated data to me from others plus a
bit of original research as well.
Regards
Timcatt
