Hello Liz et al,
I had looked at this
wikipedia.org/wiki/Haplogroup site myself, amongst many
others but was still none the wiser! Your intelligence level Liz, must be
much higher than mine.
I still fail to see how it is that John David and self can be 99.999%
certainly linked within a few generations of eachother when he is recorded
as R1b whereas I am R1b1c, however it is not fair to quiz you on this
seeming anomaly unless you have a degree in genetics?
Think we all agree that many Haplotype "tribes" colonised the whole of the
European Western Coastal area from Norway to Spain when the UK was still
part of mainland Europe and that they were ALL pushed South into Southern
France - Spain - Portugal when the last Ice Age occurred.
It is what followed this and the re population of what is now the UK when
the ice receded and then from the time that the land mass that joined the UK
to mainland Europe was flooded, leaving it an island, that interests David
and self.
We here in the UK have all seen recent TV broadcasts where genetic testing
has been carried out to determine if people here today were of original
ancestry to the UK as an Island, or came from much later sea invasions
thousands of years later from Denmark/Norway/Holland.(Subtle genetic changes
within Haplogroups???)
These tests come under the Recent Ancestral Origin classification and appear
to be specific.
Can you enquire of Lea Werk at FTDNA if the Y37 marker test has enough
information to qualify for a RAO assessment?
Naturally I realise that the FTDNA tests are primarily to determine
ancestral connections that paperwork archive can not provide but if the Y37
test can be used for RAO classification as well, that would be a bonus.
R1b1c tells me that my ancestors were probably hunter gatherers in what is
now Northern Kazakhstan and that they migrated West over the centuries and
by a circular route here I am, some 5000 years later in a small Island off
mainland Europe.
I would still like to know if I am original UK settlement before the North
Sea cut the UK off from Europe or if a later invader from Denmark?
RAO tests should tell us this.
Sorry to be a pain but there you are.
Regards
Tim.C.

Subject: [CATLEY] Haplogroups
Hi Tim and All,
Try this site
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haplogroup It is easy to
understand.
To make life easier see list below for each person and their Haplogroup.
I Leonard
I1b Frederic John (known as John)
I1b Gwyn Charles (known as John)
R1b John David
R1b1 Tim
R1b1 Alan John
R1b1 Peter
It tells you where they came from and roughly what happened when the ice
age
came. It will not state whether you where Celtic, Viking Stone age
etc as
they came after the ice age. If you follow the ice age pattern then did a
history course you might be able to take a rough guess!!!!!!!!!
Hope this helps
Liz
