OK Liz,
The Charles you mention just has to be the son of James Catley and Sarah
Fox, he b Meesdon 1811 or 1819 or 1823 depending on which records you look
at! who m Susan Bentley and then Mary Chapel. I say this because I think
there has only been one Charles b Meesdon reported?
The new Charles we have introduced b Buntingford 1814 must be the product of
Joseph Catley m Elizabeth Hagger 15/7/1812. However if this Charles m
Arundell b 1811, then he can not be the Charles living at No 65 in Anstey in
the 1851 Census which means we are still short of a Charles!
I said to you that the Barley/Anstey Cat*leys were going to be difficult lot
to get sorted!
Cheers
Timcatt

Hi Elaine and Sharon
I have the marriage cert for Charles b 1814 Buntingford. His father was
Joseph. Charles is on the census for 51 with wife Arundell b 1811 Hannah
b
1840 and nephew George Hagger b 1839 London. So I am assuming this
is the
people you mention below Tim.
Charles is on the 51 census with wife Susan it gives his year of birth as
1823 Meesden however on a later census it becomes 1819. Could this be
where
the confusion lies. As later he is married to Mary as Susan has
died.
Liz

Hi All,
I have today ordered the marriage cert for Charles and Elizabeth.
Hopefully
this will give a name for Charles father. (Fingers Crossed).
I have recently been in touch with a Bentley on genes, who has family
married to Cat*leys.
At the moment I am having trouble with my desk top pc which means I cannot
print, so when I am back up and running I will really have a look into
this
tree. It also turns out she and her Aunt and Uncle used to live in
Wyddial
next door to where my father lived. I do remember my father saying that
the
people next door were related, but at about 12-13 I really did not
take
much notice.
Looking at a map of the area, I cannot believe how close we lived to
Anstey
etc.
Elaine

Hi Elaine,
Joseph Catley (youngest son of Edward m Martha Lilly) m Elizabeth Hagger,
Anstey 15/7/1812 two sons, both bapt Anstey.
1) Charles 25/9/1814
2) George 10/8/1817.
Are you any nearer to resolving the Charles problem of identity as shown
in
the 1851 Census?
I assume that the Charles at No66 must be the son of James + Sarah Fox
with
his wife Susan Bentley. They are shown as having no children which
would
fit
as their first born, Emily died infant 1850 and their second one
Eliza did
not arrive until 1852.
As to who is at No 65 has really got me ruffled!
A Catley widow named Elizabeth..... umm...... well all I have is either
Elizabeth Fox or Elizabeth Hagger.
Elizabeth (Fox) had a son Joseph which seems to fit as he was b 1821.
Where does your Charles Catley b 1823 who m Elizabeth Tolfts come from?
So in 1851 we have two Charles Catleys living next door to eachother both
28
years old, one actually b Meesdon 1818 son of James + Sarah Fox and
the
other one????????
The IGI is not much help as it shows Charles, the son of James+Sarah as
bapt
1823 and the only other close one is Charles bapt 1814 son of Joseph
+
Elizabeth (Hagger?) so nothing makes much sense to me!
