Hi Tim
They are living in the Lambeth area. We will just have to wait for the
marriage cert that Elaine has ordered. Joseph was a brewer, is there not a
will with a Joseph in that trade floating around somewhere.

Hi Liz,
Yes I am with you as if this Charles was the one m to Elizabeth Tolfts, and
him being the son of one of Edwards brothers.
Trouble is that we can almost account for what is understood to be all of
them:-
There was JOHN, JAMES, JOSEPH (in addition to Edward)
John is a possible, I have him as b 1769 but no further info re m/d. Can you
investigate?
James of course m Sarah Fox and we already have their son Charles as b
Meesden bapt Anstey 27/7/1823.
Joseph m Elizabeth Hagger and we have already, the son Charles b 1814.
Thus the two Charles' are 1st cousins
I got all excited by the news that you had found a Charles b 1814
Buntingford with the fathers name Joseph... ah ha there we are! Joseph and
Elizabeth (Hagger) marry in Anstey and set up home in Buntingford together
where Charles is born and they have him christened back in Anstey 25/9/1814
and everything fits beautifully! Or so I thought, until I realised that such
a neat thing is totally ruined by the 1851 Census which has him at home with
his wife Arundell (by the way where were they living in this Census?)
Cheers
Tim

Hi Tim
This is probably Charles husband of Eliza Tolfts. It does state that he is
married but wife is not on there. If the Elizabeth is Edwards widow nee
Fox
That would make Charles the son of one of Edwards brothers.

Don't worry about it Sharon I make more mistakes than anybody on the List!
I already have microfiche copies of three pages of IGI for Herts and they
have not been that helpful.
Here are all the Charles' shown
Catley Charles Mary Newman H. M. 30Jul1738 Barkway
Catley Charles Charles Catley M. C. 09May1745 Barkway
Catley Charles Newman Catley/Jemima M.C. 10Mar1776 Barkway
Catley Charles Geo Cattley/Elizh M.C. 29Apr1781 Barkway
Catley Charles Hannah Roberts H.M. 20Nov1783 Little Hormead
Catley Charles Mary Wythe H.M. 14Dec1799 Throcking
Catley Charles Geo Catley/Mary Ann M.C. 13Nov1808 Barkway
Catley Charles Joseph Catley/Elizabeth M.C. 25Sep1814 Anstey
Catley Charles James Catley/Sarah M.C. 27Jul1823 Anstey
Catley Charles Samuell Catley/Elizabeth M.C. 18Apr1854 Anstey
H.M.= Husband. Marriage
M.C.= Male. Christening.
I dont think that the discovery of a Charles m Eliz Tolfts does anything
to
upset the m details of Charles m Susan Bentley, although there is
nothing
for m under Charles in IGI, if you
familysearch.org Susan Bentley it gives
m
to Charles as 1849 and that she died in 1864 which rather confirms
the
work
done by the Vicar of Anstey so I think we have to believe that there
was a
Charles Catley m to a Susan Bentley.
To my mind, what does throw everything into confusion is the reality of
the
1851 Census which shows two Charles' both aged 28 living next
door to
eachother as I explained in my email to Elaine. The guy with Susan as
wife
has surely just got to be Charles and Susan nee Bentley. If that is
proved
to be the case, then who on earth is (was) the Charles next door at
No
65?!
Do you think we will resolve this before May 2008!!!
All best
Timcatt
