Hi Liz,
It's me Jann, I sent a general request for help re Sir Henry Irving. I would
love to see what you may have about him.
Since posting the request I have been given a fair bit of info from my
distant cousin in Tasmania, Pat White (my Clara Catley and her Florence
Catley were sisters from Tasmania). In light of Pat's help I have just
received a thick hard covered book on Henry Irving which I bought from
overseas - I have yet to read it but it is about his life and rise to
stardom, so it should be a good read!
How can I send you my e-mail address privately?
Thanks Liz,
Jann

Hi All,
The following may b e of interest.
Recently I have been given a copy of an 'In Memory of' post card and a photo
which shows Sir Henry Irving (aka John Henry Brodribb).
Sir Henry Irving, actor in England, was said to be an Uncle to my Catley
ancestors who were born in Tasmania to William Aubrey Catley and wife
Susannah Miles.
Our records show that my GGG Grandfather Richard William Catley (B. 1800
Chilcompton, Somerset) married Ann Brodribb in 1827. Their son William
Aubrey was one of six children born in Bristol to Richard and Ann.
So the BRODRIBB connection seems feasible and logical but I am wondering if
anyone else out there could shed some light on the BRODRIBB family and its
connection to the Catleys,
I would be most grateful for any help anyone could send our way,
(If anyone would like a copy of this card etc please contact me privately so
I can send an attachment to you)
Kind regards,
Jann

HI Liz,
The book I have recently purchased is 'HENRY IRVING: The Actor and His
World' by Laurance Irving, published 1952 The Macmillan Company New York.
It is a hard covered book, 734 pages, in a boxed covering.
It is a very thorough book, interestingly and insightfully written and
includes many images of Sir Henry Irving/John Brodribb and some images of
family.
It covers the following:
Part 1. John Brodribb - pages 29-70
Part 2. Brodribb into Irving - pages 71 - 201
Part 3. Henry Irving - pages 205 - 674
Appendix A and B
Bibliography
Index
Thank you for your offer of assistance with information relating to Henry
Irving but I think at this stage I will need to finish reading through this
book. If you or anyone else would like any information relating to the
information about the Brodribb family I could try scanning some of it for
you.
Kind regards,
Jann
