Hi Tim and All,
I read an article today in one of the Family Tree mags about DNA and origins
I will look into it tomorrow and let you know how I get on.

Hi Liz et al,
I have taken the liberty of contacting FTDNA myself regarding the test which
I understood would assist to identify which recent Western European group I
belong to and attach the answer as a forward.
From Leah's reply, it would seem that the RAO test is not what I
am looking
for, as it only makes comparisons concerning the country of origin as
listed
on their database.
However both you, David M and self all know through watching recent UK TV
programs, that there is a test available for Western Europeans that DOES
give the information as to whether an individual is of likely
Celtic/Angle/Dansk/Norse origin.
I think Davids query based on what we know from the TV documentaries is a
perfectly reasonable one and I would like to follow this up if possible?
Where to go from here?
Thoughts appreciated
Tim

Dear Tim,
Thank you for your email. The RAO is a comparison against our database that
lists what others with similar results to you have entered for their country
of origin. By way of comparison, it can help provide hints as to a more
probable region for your own origin.
You can view your RAO comparison from the Recent Ancestral Origins section
of your Family Tree DNA personal page. This comparison shows that you have
a very large number of Y-DNA 12 marker matches. These matches are mainly
coming from Western European countries like the British Isles. On higher
marker levels you don't have any exact matches, but your closest matches
have predominantly entered countries from the British Isles. Based on this
comparison Western Europe is the best hypothesis for your own paternal line
origin and possibly the British Isles.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
Email me any time,

Dear Leah,
I am one of the Cat(t)leys that have recently undergone a FTDNA test on a
Y37 marker.
Consequently I have my Haplogroup classification and also a probable match
with one of the other participants.
However, I have a question for you:-
Does the Y37 marker test give you sufficient information to be able to tell
me what my RAO group is?
I understand that there is a test available which gives "Recent Ancestral
Origin" which broadly classifies into likely tribal roots such a Celt, Angle
Saxon, Dane and Norse.
Can you please let me know what is available .... would have thought the Y37
test would be sufficient to make such an identification?
Regards
Tim Cattley
