Hello Erica,
David. B. and Joan.C. have both responded and it looks as if the central
London churches that were demolished under "The Union of City Benefices" had
their vault and graveyard remains re-interred in the then brand new City of
London Cemetary in Ilford, which was a purchase of 200 acres of land.
I always think it so disrespectful to move headstones and make them into
footpaths.
It reminds me of the memorial service held in Chipping Barnet church for
William Cattley of Orchid fame in 1992. His parents (John of Barnet
1759-1830 and Ann Cattley) grave headstone is part of the paved walk way to
the main church entrance.
Love T.

Hi Tim,
No I am sorry, I know nothing about reburials in that era. These
days the keepers of the bodies of the dead are very cavalier about it
all. Your lease runs out here and they just take the headstone away
and bury someone else in the spot. I noticed that the same thing
applied when I went to the Anglican (C of E?) church at Sale in
England in 1997. There I seem to recall walking on a pathway made
of old headstones. A case of "Don't stand at my grave and look for
me, I am not there" to probably misquote a poem used at so many
funerals these days.
Sorry I can't help. Highgate cemetery would be a candidate I would
imagine.
Love... E
