G'day Tim,
Just a small correction to your "Hannah's line". Hannah was indeed the
mother of George Catley and the daughter of Charles Catley and Mary Petty.
She was an assisted migrant to South Australia, arriving on the "Ganges",
23 Jun 1839. At the time she applied for an assisted passage, she was a
domestic servant aged 26 yrs, living at 5 Comberwell Green, London. (Note: I
think this should be Camberwell Green). She married Joseph Watson in
Adelaide, S.A. 14 Nov 1840. They had 12 children. She died in Petersham,
an inner Sydney suburb on 31 Jul 1903.
Her son, George Catley married Mary Ann Harrison in West Hackney, Middlesex
15 Feb 1851. They migrated to Australia with their two children, George
Herbert and Ernest Thomas, arriving Sydney 21 Feb 1855 on the "Abdalla"
which departed Plymouth 3 Nov 1854, chartered by the Family Colonization
Loan Society.
Regards,
Mick Catley

How do Mick,
Thank you for putting me back on track concerning Ronald William and I
agree with you that such a query falls into the "easy category" but he
failed
to appear for me from the Ancestry records when I looked.
I have him now as a 5th generation member of the James Catley of Barley
tree sub branch that starts with Hannah Catley (1812-1903) daughter of
Charles & Mary nee Petty who emigrated to AU in 1854 along with her
son George bt 14/03/1828 at St Andrew's, Enfield. I have named this sub
branch "Hannah's line" accordingly.
My "continual activities" as you aptly call them have resulted in a
spreadsheet
of Cat*ley bmd's and census returns that now tops 17,000 entries and
sports
61 different tree names. When I started this exercise, it was with the
intention
of gaining information to be able to join up some of the 30 or so trees
that we
knew about and thus it has come as some surprise to see the numbers swell
by 100% rather than reduce !
I do not think that I will ever be able to get a good grip on the American
trees
due to US data protection, there are so many unanswerable questions which
makes things very difficult.
Regards and thank's Mick
Tim

G'day Tim,
Yes. I agree not much is happening with Cat(t)ley research at present
apart
from your continual activities. However it is inevitable that this will
always be the outcome once the easier records are accessed and we are left
to establish links between the different branches of our family trees.
Fortunately your request for information on Ronald William Catley falls
into
the easier category. He was born in NSW in 1916, the son of Ernest
Thomas
Catley and Mary Christina Cullen. I am aware of a sibling, Roy Catley
died
1923. This Ernest Thomas Catley was born Sydney 1881, the son of another
Ernest Thomas Catley whose birth was registered in Edmonton, Middlesex in
Dec Qtr 1853, the son of George Catley and Mary Ann Harrison who migrated
to Sydney in 1855. They belong to the James of Barley tree.
Regards,
Mick Catley

Good morning All,
It is mighty quiet on this our Catley Listers site, is anybody else still
researching anything or am I ploughing a lone furrow?
Have made a few requests for additional information or confirmation about
Cat*ley events but no responses at all, which presumably means that I am
working "off known Cat*ley trees" and thus outside regular Listers radar
coverage who are rather naturally, only concerned about their own
pedigree.
Here is one for our antipodean Listers :-
Have any of you got a sight on Ronald William Catley who married Beryl
Joan
Lawless in 1940 at Waverley NSW? Am trying to find his dob and his
parents
names as I can not apply him to a known tree.
Can anybody assist ?
Tim C
