Good to have contact from you Kay,
Evidently your powers of communication have not been impaired which is good
news indeed.
As for my "All Cat*ley" research and resulting bmd spreadsheet :-
My main aim here was to focus on the theory that probably there were
overall, fewer different trees than we on the Rootsweb Catley List had
identified and that by taking a broad objective view on research, coupled
with the dna testing results which showed conclusively that the name was
certainly regional in origin with seven different Y37 genetic profiles
isolated, I was expecting to be able to marry some of the 30 or so known
different lines together from the mass of unallocated bmd data still
remaining.
However quite the reverse has been the case as I now have 60 different cells
indicated. I use the term "cell" rather than tree because whereas although
some of our well known regional trees such as the
Lincolnshire/Yorkshire/Somerset ones are of epic proportion, there are many
more bushes, branches and even twiglets in existence which sadly defy
attaching anywhere else through lack of supporting evidence.
Looking about on the global Catley picture makes me realise just how
fortunate we are here in the UK with the GRO lists when compared for example
the USA with their data protection laws which has hampered me somewhat in
resolving much of the US census information. Australia too is proving
difficult with a number of known Catley individuals unaccounted for.
On the positive side, I am reasonably happy that I have identified nearly
all the UK Cat*ley cells now and have managed to discount a multitude of
"strays" which turn out to be Ancestry transfer errors such as the Oatley
name which abounds in the census returns for Wiltshire and Somerset,
incorrectly shown as Catley!
Regards Tim
