Hi Tim
Thankyou for the interesting background information. I thought you would
know where he fitted in.
Cheers

This photo appears on a number of websites but R Catley gets a mention as
one of the shopkeepers. May be of interest to someone.

Good morning Pat,
The person you have hit upon here is Robert Catley born Q3 1848 in Bristol
RD the son of Henry Catley and Mary Ann nee Axhorn and thus a member of the
Thomas Catley (1772) of Camerton family tree which is near
Radstock/Midsomer Norton in Somerset.
I do not know his background in clockmaking/repairs but he appears in my
records as marrying twice in Chester, to 1 Sarah Brittain in 1876 and 2
Mary Beech in 1896. He had some seven children all who's births were
registered in Chester. Of his three sons, only Henry survived to
marry,Reginald Robert being killed in a military training accident in 1914
in Northampton but buried in Chester.
Henry married Alice Edwards in Chester in 1904 and had a daughter and son
the latter being George Robert Catley birth reg Chester in 1904 but
emigrated to Canada in 1929. Somewhere along the way he married a Phyllis
but I lost track of them in 1940 making a Canada to USA border crossing.
If anybody has any knowledge about living members of this Camerton Catley
family tree, please be advised that the Catley surname DNA project with
FamilyTreeDNA could really do with a sample. OF all the West Country
Catley family trees, we have only two tests done and this is on Glynis'
"Emery of Midsomer Norton" line and Bernies "Thomas of Bath" pedigree
and
whilst both are R1b1b2 haplogroup (thus not Norse/Anglo Saxon) they do not
share a common ancestor.
