Dear Tim
The 1901 census was not helpful on either service I subscribe to, but I
think I have our man on the 1891 returns from 59 Monkgate, York, viz.
Robert Cattley, 24, registered medical practitioner student of law and
science, born Wiganthorpe, Yorks. The Head of the household was Eliza
Cattley, widow, 54, living on own means, born East Heslerton, Yorks. The
best match by age is with your military Robert.
One of your PRO entries has a matching death registered Wakefield 1865.
Best wishes,
Anthony

Hi Anthony,
I am curious to know which tree this R.Cattley belongs to and thus wish
to
identify him.
My PRO (birth) lists suggest there are four possible persons born
between
1859 and 1878 and in each case their Christian names were Robert.
Robert birth Reg:- Malton 1866 can be discounted, he was of the
Normanton
Cattleys and a military person.
Robert birth Reg:- Cambridge 1859 is a possible. (Liz: do you have a fix
on
him?)
Robert birth Reg:- Wakefield 1863 is a stronger possibility (Kay: do you
have him?)
Robert birth Reg:- Leeds 1878 looks to be the best bet and aged 30 when
the
Paper was published.
Have not yet worked out which Trees, Robert's 1859 and 1863 belong to,
but
Robert 1878 is of the Bilton Ainstey Cattleys as researched by Kay &
Liz.
Can you dip into the 1901 Census and see where these three Roberts were
at
that time, only seven years before the Paper was published?
Regards
Tim

Web of Science lists three short papers by R. Cattley from this
period
in BMJ, Lancet and J Pathol Bacteriol. None are yet available on line
but I will order a couple to see what they say.
A very productive scientist now at Amgen is RC Cattley. In the sixties
there were papers in Nature by JG Cattley as well as publications by
JM
Cattley. Single T Catleys have been even more prolific.

This is a Paper by one Andrew Hunter published 1908, which concerns
Urocanic Acid Nitrate which seemingly is a pancreatic digest
by-product
of casein.
There are photograph negatives used in the paper to illustrate the
crystalline nature of Urocanic Acid and Hunter attributes them to Dr R
Cattley at Leeds University.
Whether this R.Cattley is a Yorkshire Tree member is speculative and
he
could have come from anywhere I suppose.
The paper suggests that he (Cattley) was working within the
Physiological Lab's at Leeds University.
