John,
Thanks to Liz C and Kay H, we have now got a full Birmingham Catley Tree
which dates back to a Joseph bapt Aston, Birmingham, 1777 and I am in
contact with current tree descendents. Anyone who monitors Catley on ebay
will be well aware of who's albums appear there on almost a daily basis
......... he is a member of this Tree.
There was recent correspondence from Lynda P which although mainly relating
to the current Herts/Cambs/Essex Cat*ley research, made reference to a Mark
Catley who had information on his family history indicating that his
ancestor was a gunsmith in Brum..... this gem of information confirms that
he is a member of the Joseph of Aston line.
There is another known pocket of Staffordshire Cattleys and they belong to a
Liz.C and Kay H researched Yorkshire Tree which are dna related to self via
the John Cattley of Pennsylvania test.
The two pockets of "other Staffordshire Catleys" that I mentioned yesterday
and which Merv picked up on, one at Audley near Stoke on Trent and the other
at Handsworth do not appear to be related either to eachother, or, to any of
the other Staffordshire Cat*leys, be they in the general vacinity of
Birmingham or true rural Staffordshire as marked on current maps.
Hope this clarifies the situation?
By the way, are you still on for the Cat*ley gathering at Oxford in May?
Cheers
Timcatt.

You are right Merv. The Birmingham Handsworth is between West
Bromwich and
Birmingham. It used to be in Staffordshire and I think it is now
classed as
Sandwell.
I know that there are a number of Catley families in the area but
those I
have spoken to don't seem to be interested in their history. However,
whenever I come across one I ask the question
