Hi Merv,
Good to have you on the List.
Is it coincidence, or are you the Merv who belongs to the Halstaed Catleys
who submitted a lot of really useful information on this Tree to the Cat*ley
Database some years ago?
As for dna testing:- we have about 55 Listers on the site and so far around
9 of us have undergone tests which has turned up some really useful
information.
For example my Cattley family goes back to Yorkshire circa 1590 but I have a
99.9% certainty dna match with a John Cattley in Pennsylvania, USA who's
ancestors we now know were agricultural labourers and then coal miners near
Leeds.
There are quite a few other Cat*ley trees about, who now know they are part
of something bigger due to dna matches.
However, there is a problem in that the test can only be done on the Y
chromosome (male line) and not via any female gene thus there has to be a
clear direct father to son link all down through the line, so unfortunately
it can not be through the son of a female Cat*ley.
Thanks for responding.
Tim Cattley

Subject: [CATLEY] Further dna testing?
Hi, new to list and not sure as yet what you are asking exactly.
My maternal grandmother was a Halstead Catley (illegitimate), her mother
was a
CATLEY.
Regards Merv.
