Hi all,
Sharon.W. + self and now Anthony.C. as well, are researching WW1 Catley/Cattley casualties
due to a "no trace" with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission of a
Barkway/Anstey Catley named Edward.
Resulting searches have extended to cross check against Edward's that the CWRG do have
listed and this includes one who died in Egypt and is buried in Haifa War Cem.
From documentation that Anthony has turned up, this Edward was in the
Royal Army Service Corps and was one of eight children of Walter William Catley and
Harriett Elizabeth Catley of Evercreech, Somerset.
From the Army Form W5080 on Edward, it is apparant that William and
Harriett had the following children:-
Clemant Walter b 1893
Ernest Michael b 1895
Edward George b 1896
Alfred John b 1897
Lilly Victoria b 1900
Frederick Chas b 1903
Ivy May b 1906
Roy Percival b 1908.
Cross checks with the GRO births confirms these names/years (except Alfred John who GRO
indicates b 1899 not 1897) all with the Reg Dist of Shepton Mallet.
My first reaction to this data was that this clutch of Catleys ought to belong to the
Emery Catley of Somerset Norton tree but the minimal info I have on this clan does not
include a Walter William that I can see.
I note that the GRO births show a Walter William Catley b 3/4 1868 Reg Dist: Wincanton
which is only some eight miles away from Evercreech.
Hope this info is of help to someone?
Regards
Timcatt
