I have found a Daily Telegraph readers letters cutting from the mid 1960's which may
be of interest to Listers who are concerned with the Stevan Catlay of Normanton Tree and
in particular that branch thereof who spent much time out in Tzarist Russia as members of
The English Community in St Petersburg between the mid 1700's and 1917.
The letter was written by Alan Richard Cattley a Gt Grandson of Robert Cattley of St
Petersburg 1787-1859 who married Frances Moberly:-
Sir, -
I was much interested in Henry Longhurst's description of The Mourino Club. My father
Frederick Henry Cattley was secretary of the Mourino Club for many years prior to 1914.
Many notable residents in the British colony at St Petersburg were active members of the
club, while amongst its non playing members was the Grand Duke Kyril, first cousin of the
late Tsar, Nicolas 2nd.
The name of the Mourino Club still continued to appear in the "Golfers Handbook"
after war and revolution had uprooted all those connected with the club.

Oxford.
I think Alan Cattley spent most of his working life as a schoolmaster in the Oxford area.
