Hi Marge,
1) :- I think the only correction you have sent to me is the fact that there
was no Hagar Cattley, there are a lot of dates of birth/marriage/death still
missing and I was hopeful that you, or the others on your immediate branch
would be able to fill in some of the gaps? However, I have had renewed
contact with Lynn Blackwell who is related to you as Jane Cattley's
grandaughter and she is doing quite a bit of research on the PA Cattley's so
maybe she will be able to find the missing bits instead?
2) :- As to how we are related, well there is no paper trail of evidence I
am afraid and quite honestly I will be most surprised if we ever find one.
Kay Heath + Liz Cordingly + self have done a lot of research work on the
Yorkshire Cat*ley Trees and, is our habit, give names to each, which
corresponds with the oldest identified male known and where he lived. Thus
we have Stevan Catlay of Normanton (1609) and Edmund Catley of Bilton
Ainstey (1726) and we know from the paper evidence that you are a direct
relation of Edmund whereas I am a direct relation of Stevan.
DNA tests (familytreedna) show that genetically these two trees are
connected because your grand nephew John David and self have a 99.9999%
positive match. The question is ofcourse, where back in time do these
branches connect back into one tree?
Obviously it must be before 1726 and this has caused me some head scratching
because I can not find any evidence on my Stevan line where the connection
is. The only two possible answers are:- 1) that one of my ancestors
between 1609 and 1726 had children that we have not accounted for, or, 2)
that the connection pre-dates 1609.
Kay is still researching the Yorkshire Cat*leys looking for her own roots
and may yet turn up record evidence that supports what the genes tell us?
All best wishes
Tim

Hi Tim,
I have two questions for you. First...did you receive my corrections
on the list of our PA Cattley's? As I said..I have no idea who Hagar
was.
Also, I am confused as to how we are related. Apparently it was
stated when I was not on the computer and I only know that you said we were
and we are distant cousins. As we thought for some time. Can you clear
this up for me? Or maybe Kay can answer. ? We are selling the family
home and the estate will be settled soon I hope. It is a trying and sad
time for our memories. I am sure my brother Lou would be very pleased tho.
I am sure he would have wanted Don or John and I to come to the reunion and
I enjoyed the emails from those who went to it.
Hope this finds you well.
Take care,
Marge Cattley, you cuz. from PA

Hi Tim
Thanks for that, I was interested to which tree he belonged to.

The Cattley post cards crop up on e-bay quite frequently but more often
than
not, the artist is incorrectly identified by use of the wrong
initials as
P.R.Cattley.
The person concerned was Alexander Robert Cattley (1885-1955) who was an
illustrative artist for the News Chronicle newspaper.
As an aside to his regular employment, he did a series of 1914-1918
"military humour" post cards and it is an example of one of these that
Elaine refers to.
Alexander was also an authority on British Military Uniforms and from time
to time other examples of his art crop up in the form of card sets of
illustrations of militia during the American War of Independence.
None of his work will mean much to any of you unless, like Alexander
Robert
Cattley, you happen to be a member of the Stevan Catlay of Normanton
(Yorkshire) Tree.
Regards
Tim Cattley.
