Hi Liz,
Am on the trail of a Barkway Catley for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission because the
person is not listed on their WW1 casualty list.
The person in question we already have listed on our Mk9 "James Catley of
Barley" Family Tree as Edward, son of Edward and Susannah Scripps born 28/9/1878
Barley and we also know that he died at home 01/10/1915 as a result of his war wounds.
Within your photo collection taken on your whistle-stop tour of the North Herts Catley
parishes, you have an outdoor WW1 memorial photo which includes the name Pte Edward Catley
and also another one taken of an indoor memorial plaque also featuring him. In both cases
the names are 24 in total and appear to be the same people. Am I correct in thinking that
these two memorials are at Barkway church?
My bmd's indicate that Edward m Annie Tamar Hicks and that six of their seven
children's Birth Certificates are recorded as under West Ham Reg Dist which means that
Edward, although commemorated at Barkway where he was born,is likely buried somewhere
within the area covered by the West Ham Reg Dist.
The Pte Charles Catley also shown on both memorial photo's must be Edwards younger
brother who was killed in November 1918.
Can you confirm that both memorials are infact at Barkway church please?
Tim
