Hi Erica,
Thank's for having a go at resolving the print and attempting to make
heads and tails of the thing.
Ever curious and not to be beaten by something so silly, I have managed
to find another site carrying the same item :-
http://www.cqout.com/item.asp?id
This confirms your interpretation that bottom left shows key players
from the Surbiton Team, whilst top right shows ditto for Molesey.
The Cattley is indeed bottom left, 2nd from corner and the initials
are H.T.Cattley (Captain).
Who was he? I have a suspicion that this could well have been our
Henry Toulmin Cattley (1860-1909) born Reigate and died Sutton.
It will be interesting to wait and see if any Toulmin researchers pick
up on this e-mail and confirm as we know they have lots of Toulmin/
Cattley tree information.
Tim

Hi Tim,
I have played around with it in Photoshop but can't get anything like
a good enough resolution to really make out the names. I think the
person in the bottom row, second from left is probably the CATTLEY -
at least that's what it looks like to me. I believe I can see
CATTLEY but I cannot make out the initials nor what the words
underneath say. Next to him in the bottom row seems to be a fellow
called Munro who is shown as goal so possibly the words underneath
indicate their position on the team.
The two teams seem to be placed bottom left and top right. Mr Gifford
is I believe in the top right hand corner at the bottom of that
triangle. The fact that only two names are mentioned possibly
suggests that these two are the team captains.
I've changed resolutions, sharpened it, I've blown it up, I've made
it smaller, I've looked at it with a magnifying glass, but for the
life of me I cannot make out those initials - sorry.
As ever ... Erica
