Hi Mick,
Thank you for confirming your Barley ancestry.
Given that a dna link has been established between the Barley and Melbourn
(Cambs) Catleys and given the local proximity, I feel sure that any further
dna tests on Sawston rooted Catleys should only go to prove this theory...
any takers?!
As to Herts+Cambs Catleys all being one and stemming from an older common
Essex ancestral line, it would be fascinating indeed if we could find, say a
Halstead Catley member to take a dna test?
A Sawston Catley dna test which did not match up to the Barley/Melbourn dna
already on record would certainly make us rethink the whole situation!
Regards Tim

G'day Liz and Tim,
Unfortunately I cannot establish a link between my Barley line and the
Sawston Catleys or indeed any of the Cambridgeshire Catleys. While most
of
us would probably agree there is almost certainly a link, I am not aware
that anyone has substantiated it. In the absence of sound evidence that
the
Cambridgeshire branch stemmed from the Barley line we should not discount
the likelihood that both the Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire lines
stemmed
directly from a common Essex ancestral line.
Regards,
Mick Catley
