Has anybody done any research on what happened to George Catley who was transported to
Port Phillip - Freemantle W.A. on the ' Orient ' leaving UK 23/11/1847 arriving
there 04/02/1848?
This lad was convicted at Hull Assizes 26/6/44 aged 12 years for stealing watches and
given a seven year prison sentence.
Seems he landed up in Parkhurst Prison on the Isle of White and became one of "The
Parkhurst Boys" who were enforced boy apprentices.
George looks to be the son of James and Jane Cat(t)ley who along with his brother James
were bapt at St Denis, York on 22nd Sept 1831.
There is a James Cat(t)ley who m a Jane Wright at St Denis, York on 25th Oct 1830.
A supposition only but it appears that the family moved to Hull around 1835 when a 3rd son
Thomas was born who was bapt 28/6/1837 Holy Trinity, Hull.
I can not trace James back to any of the three known Yorks trees, nor do I know if George
later married in Australia.
