Good result Nigel,
So poor Mary Ann Roddle marries George Jesse Catley and between 1881 and
about 1885 sees the death of both her children and husband as well.
One can only hope that life was kinder to her second time around with
Charles Michaelson and that they had a family that survived into adulthood.
I wonder why George Jesse's death is not in the records, everything else
seems to be?
No doubt you have this on your "to research" list and if you find it, please
remember if you can, to let me know for my records.
Regards
Tim

Hi Tim- So no family scandal then.
I went to BL today. It turns out your Marian Catley and Mary Ann Roddle
were one in the same.
Mary Ann Roddle b1854, was the daughter of John Roddle. She married George
Jesse Catley, son of Leonard Catley (of the Emery tree) and Charlotte
Bunyan, in Bombay on 10 Sept 1873. They had two children Percival born
Sept
1872 (ok maybe there is a bit of scandal) but died 1881, and Evelyn who
died in infancy in 1884. George also died sometime before 1887- when the
widow Mary Ann Catley marries Charles Michaelson at Bombay Registry
Office.
Her name is recorded as Marian- but this is probably the registrar
spelling
it how he heard it.
For the purist it is interesting that the marriage is listed twice in the
IOR Index - as Catley and Cattley!! - clearly the result of the registrars
handwriting
Nigel
