Hi Anthony + Liz,
What an interesting family this has turned out to be and what an
interesting
trail of research, all starting with the clue of Thomas Henry Catley
marrying in Bombay.
Certainly a family of highs (Thomas the architectural carver and Bertram
Sydney in the Army Staff Medical Corps) and lows (George + James being
sentenced to Transportation) all this is a good illustration of family
history fact being so much better than fiction! I had no idea that
convicted felons were sent to Bermuda to carry out a sentence of hard
labour, it is something I have always associated with AU and
VDL/Tasmania/NZ
only.
There are a number of question marks dangling on this tree but hopefully
some can be removed when Liz meets presumably Thomas.H.C.C the son of
Horace.
It would be good to find out if George and James learned the error of
their
ways, is it possible that James followed his brother out to AU one George
finished his penal servitude there?
Also there is the question as to what happened to Andrew b 1845 m Caroline
Hodkisson ? Also Bertram, I wonder if he died in the USA, I can not yet
find
any confirmation.
Tim
