Hi Jocelyn,
I think you said you expect the Y37 results next week and in the meantime we
can only speculate of course.
Been doing a bit of digging because what has mystified me is those TV
programs where they go into dna testing to determine if individuals have
Celtic or Nordic or Saxon or whatever? ancestry but none of this comes out
with FTDNA tests.
Seems that there are sub types of Haplogroup which in ourcase is R1b1c (or
is it R1b12) and the bit I was reading on the Intenet tonight shows there
are around some 9 or so sub types or "clans" within R1b1 which have
different regional epicentres within the UK.
My FTDNA match list looks like this at present
12 Marker exact 927 incl Francis Richard
12 Marker dist 1 1 John David
25 Marker dist 2 10 incl John David
36 Marker dist 4 1 John David
So, yes I have another 9 matches at 25 Marker dist 2
Best
Tim

Hi there Tim,
Yes I had observed the geographical distribution of where the other
matching
individuals live and our haplogroup based on the 12 DNA test, but I was
waiting for the more detailed marker results. From memory I think Sweden
was
quite high too. Did you get any matches or near matches for the 25 and 37
marker results, other than Cattley of course?
Cheers
Jocelyn

Hi Liz and Jocelyn,
When I went a-looking on FTDNA for your test results Jocelyn, it made me
realise that I had not modified my e-mail address with them (idiot!) and
made the necessary adjustments right away.
Since than I have had a landslide of information re "matches" hitting my
e-mail a/c at a furious rate all rated at Y12 Marker Exact Match level and
the number currently stands at 927!
Whilst yours is the only other Catley, I did notice those other "close"
names that you referred to such as Catlin etc etc which is food for future
thought.
However what did catch my eye is the geographical breakdown by country
where
these other exact match individuals live.
As one would expect, England, Scotland and Wales features as a high %
(same
exact match marker to number tested in that country) but what is perhaps
more interesting is the % values for Belgium and the Netherlands which
show
a higher number still!
So: our ancestral path would seem to be via The Low Countries and I am
wondering if this is a result of our Haplogroup migration into the UK from
modern Belgium and Holland in the days before water levels rose to form
the
North Sea, or if it is from continued settlement following the Roman exit
from UK in what we know as the "dark ages"?
