I know St Thomas quite well. The most famous victim of a railway accident, which occurred
two years earlier in 1885, was Jumbo the circus elephant. There is a life sized statue of
Jumbo at St Thomas. I once saw it painted pink. I was sober at the time and gather this
was just the undercoat for a fresh coat of grey paint.

An entry in the above relates to a railway accident and resulting explosion at St Thomas,
Ontario on or about 16July in which 12 people were killed and some 90 injured mostly by
severe burns which were likely to make the final death toll much greater.
Amongst those injured were Georgie and Frankie Cattley who had been in the vacinity of
Union Street at the time and became engulfed in the explosion and fire.
Anybody got Georgie and Frankie on their Tree?
