Hi Everyone,
I'm very behind in my emails, just catching up now. Thomas Catley of
Midsomer Norton is my 6th Great Grandfather. I haven't been able to get much
information past him. Anyone else having any luck. I'd love to go back
further.

Good morning all,
Thomas Catley b 1701 of Midsomer Norton, Somerset is one of the three
"research established" trees that we have on file, mainly c/o the work done
by Glynis who put together both Thomas' and also the Henry of Cucklington b
1802 tree whilst researching her own line being Emery Catley b 1731 of
Midsomer Norton.
Do we have a Catley Lister who is a member of the Thomas of MSN tree ?
I thought that Jann Parks was in the frame here but have not seen any
e-mails from her for quite a time : are you still with us Jann?
Regards
Tim

Yes...still here.
I've been reading the e-mails Tim but haven't had anything much to
contribute.
I'm on the same branch/line as Dennis from NZ.

Afternoon Jann,
Thank you for the response, you had dropped off my radar plot and was
reminded of this when I found the marriage of Agatha Brodribb Catley (a
daughter of James Thomas of Bristol and then Nelson NZ) in 1897 in Fulham,
London.
Just wondering if either you or Dennis has a copy of your tree that you
could send to me? I am working with Glynis' data, nothing wrong with it,
it
is very comprehensive but just wondering if you have pushed further out
research-wise beyond that point where Glynis got to?
Apart from Agatha and my not appreciating that she had come over to the UK,
I was wondering if you had any further information concerning the children
of Thomas' grandson James Catley who married Mary Ann Maggs in 1795 in the
Midsomer Norton area? I ask because have been working with Elaine (James
Catley of Barley tree) on the tree of a celebrity Catley here in the UK
(more about that "off List" if you will make direct contact with me?) and
it
looks as if said person may well be related on the female Catley side....
Elain's just waiting for birth+marriage certs to prove yes or no.
Tim

The problem with this is the document it links to which lists those
entitled to the "India General Service Medal, 1908" with clasp inscribed
"Afghanistan, N.-W. Frontier, 1919." Hardly the Napoleonic Wars. Anthony

One of the medals that might interest Indian Catleys is the General Service
Medal with clasp "Iraq" awarded at Simla 31 July 1924 to temporary nurse
Miss A F Catley of St George's Hospital Bombay.
Wikipedia states: This clasp was presented to those who satisfied one of
the following conditions: Served at Ramadi or north of a line east and west
through Ramadi between 10 December 1919 and 13 June 1920. Part of an
establishment within Iraq between 1 July and 17 November 1920. Anthony

Evening Anthony
Can you confirm that you are saying the Ancestry.co.uk details appended
below are incorrect?
If so there is page after page relating to the men of that Somerset
battalion who reputedly served in the Napoleonic Wars and Ancestry need to
sort their act out.
By the way, there is supposedly an image to view of the original register
but nothing happens on my system when I tried to view it ? I have notified
Ancestry.

Hi David. When I click on the icon the image appears. Pte C. Catley (the a
in ink, the rest typed) with the same Reg No. as in the index but details as
I reported. When did Ancestry last get their act together? Anthony
