Hi there Tim,
You may be right that George is a late child of Charles+Mary and named
George. You can see by my new entry No 2 cf the current one No 3. in the
spreadsheet I am updating that the age fits. The 1841 census states that
Charles and Mary have 2 sons at home, George (born Enfield) and Newman,
which also fits, but Charles is a Dr of Medicine (I think this is what it
says). Not sure how he goes from being a farmer to a Dr, but then in the
1851 census George is a Cattle Dr (wife Mary) so maybe I am misreading the
1841 one. Charles is not in the 1851 census. No evidence of George in the
1861 census. I think that entries 1,4, and 5 below are for the same person.
My entry 5, indicates that this George was illegitimate.
1.George Catley bir: in 1827 ?Marcham?

How do Mick,Sharon,Elaine,
Am going through Chris' latest Catley database updates for comparison with
my "all Cat*ley bmd spreadsheet" and am confused re latest submitted
concerning that which appertains to George Catley of the James of Barley
tree.
Presently I have Charles 1781-1850 as marrying Mary Petty and having seven
children:-
Charles bt 27/12/1807 Marcham
Sarah bt 01/07/1810 Marcham
Hannah bt 03/02/1812 Marcham**
George bt 10/09/1815 Marcham
Charles bt 12/10/1817 Marcham
Mary Jane b 1820 Marcham
Newman bt 06/06/1823 Oxford
I then have Hannah** spinster as having a son George bt 14/03/1828 St
Andrew's, Enfield.
This George I have as m Mary Ann Harrison in Hackney in 1851 and emigrated
to Australia in 1854 taking with them their two first born children:- George
Herbert and Ernest Thomas. From this I have a three generation Australian
branch centered on NSW which is unresolved and needs bringing up to date.
However (and this is my confusion) the database now shows from an 1841
Ponders End census return, a George born 1827 son of Charles and Mary.
Do I take it that this is a late child of Charles+Mary(Petty) and named
George as their previous son George would seem to have died in Enfield and
buried 22/4/1827.
I can not find any evidence for this later George re his bmd and wonder if
you can put me straight please?
Tim
