Hi Jocelyn,
No, you are not going loopy at all, I should have indicated 1032 (current
number, right?) 12 Marker exact match.
Within this number I have 2 x Catlin and 2 x Cantley as well as your father
with the "proper" Catley name, presumably then, your match list shows these
same four persons?
Also have just one 12 Marker distance 1 match who is our Bilton Cat*ley tree
member.
Of the 10 matches at 25 Marker distance 2, there is only one Cat*ley who is
the same person as the 12 Marker distance 1.
At the 37 Marker distance 4, have just one match who of course, is the same
Cat*ley as at the one at 12 distance 1 and 24 distance 2.
I will never get to understand this dna matching caper as I can not see why
it is that at the 12 Marker level I am closer related to the lone person at
distance 1 than the 1032 with a direct match?
Surely though, if you have two 37 Marker distance 4 matches, they must
indicate quite a close connection despite the name difference?
Still confused
Tim

Hi there Tim,
Unless I'm going loopy, I thought that we have these two sets of 1026
(more
now) matches for an exact 12 marker match (not -1) where of course my
father
was an exact match, but only for 12 Markers.
Are your 10 matches at the 25 marker (-2) level with Cat*leys or other
names
? I have 2 at the 37 marker(-4) level. They are not Catleys but are
closely
related to each other.
Cheers
Jocelyn

Hello Liz,
Familytreedna autocontacts have now reached 1026 matches for me at : 12
Marker Genetic distance 1 which I ignore as none show a surname
association.
Putting aside the exciting : 37 Marker Genetic distance 4 match, which
indicates that the Edmund Catley of Bilton Ainstey tree and the Stevan
Catlay of Normanton one are linked, there remains the question in my mind
as
to how important (or otherwise) are my 10 matches showing on the 25 Marker
Genetic distance 2 ?
Puzzled but interested
Tim
