Acknowledge you have established that the Catleys in Horne, Surrey are not
the
parents of Zachariah. It looked to me like a good possibility but evidently
not
the case. As Anthony says :- "every little bit helps".
OK on you putting your findings on a separate spreadsheet, that's fine
although
you could do that which Liz is doing which is to use the unaccounted
spreadsheet
I sent to you and make additions in a different colour.
If you have a clear run of say three generations, that's fine for a new
tree or maybe
a new twig. A few years ago I had about half a dozen 5-6 generation mini
trees
in the Yorkshire area, Liz+Kay took them on board and started doing more
detailed
researches and got back a lot further and so for example, one of them, my
Joseph of Walkeringham became William if Willingham after his grandfather,
so it is
no problem to rename a tree when backtrack research is successful.

Hi there All,
David, if you are able to provide any more details I am all ears !
This is mainly of benefit to Anne and I but so far I have ascertained that
John
and Elizabeth of Horne Surrey are not Zachariah's parents (John and
Elizabeth) -
Tim I am recording my finding on a separate spreadsheet so you know what I
am
doing. I need to do a bit more work on where I am looking at present
(London) to
confirm but more Cat*leys are coming out of the woodwork, and so are
questions.
One big question I have is what is the criteria to determine whether a line
is a
new tree ???

Howdy all,
I am watching this thread with interest.
There is a host of Catley folk in the upper western regions of Lincolnshire,
who to date are waiting to slot into someone's tree or trees.
Some of the pre 1800 Catley's in this catchment area could easily have
hitched a lift on the Great North Road or coastal vessels to other parts of
the country.
I have a number of individuals located on various parts of my Kirton tree in
Lincs who may well have descendants lurking out there and will gladly pass
on any finds.
Speaking of which has anyone got a claim on the following:
William H CATLEY - GRO Death Index - DEC Qtr 1958 - Southend on Sea - aged
84 years?
I am hoping he is William Henry CATLEY of Keelby, Lincs - BTH GRO JUN 1873 -
CAISTOR
Interesting chap if is - he and his twin were both the illegitimate issue of
Sarah Catley also of Keelby who in turn was herself a twin!

Hi there,
I have often thought about this as well but doing so using an earlier
timeframe. If you encompassed the 1851 census it would be much easier and
more reliable - less people, less mobile, and closer to the "source".
Starting closer to the source would include more Cat*ley trees as each
generation does not necessarily produce Cat*leys or males. A prime example
of this is mine and Anne's Zachariah of Hackney tree.. This tree will not
feature if you used the ~1850-1911 timeframes or even anything after 1840.
There may will be unidentified cousins or great aunts and uncles out there
but they could not be linked to this tree unless you looked at the data
prior to 1800.
Maybe a two pronged approach would work, one prior to 1800 and the other
using ~1860-1911 ??
I have often also thought about plotting the birth places of these earlier
Cat*leys on a map much like I did with the Cat*ley DNA results. This
approach might be more useful if once this proposed exercise has been
undertaken and there are still outliers.
