Hello Anthony,
There is no problem.
Reginald Roberts parents were Robert Catley of Camerton, Bath b 3/4 1848 a
clock/warch maker and his 2nd wife Mary m 2/4 1896 Chester.
Roberts father was Henry Catley bapt 13/02/1814 Widcombe, the product of
Thomas Catley of Camerton and his 2nd wife Jane Vizor (or Vizer) who married
31/08/1808 Bathwick.
Henry Catley had a younger brother Thomas b 29/06/1817 Holloway (Bath) and
he could fit in geographically and time-wise with Bernies lost Thomas who
was tried at Bath.
This line stems from a Thomas Catley of Camerton 1723-1807.
I am merely pointing out that we have a Thomas who could fit with that which
Bernie seeks.
Tim

Hi Tim
I thought we had Reginald Robert Catley sorted with parents and siblings.
What's the problem?
Anthony

Hi Bernie and everybody,
All this sudden flurry of information from Liz and Anthony concerning
Bernies ancestor James Catley, Transported for 10 years to AU on the
Bengal
Merchant in 1838 has got me looking again at various branches of my
"unaccounted Catley's" one of which, culminates with the first Catley
killed
in WW1 being Reginald Robert Catley a Gunner of the Royal Field Artillery
who died 26/09/1914 and is buried in Chester General Cemetery.
Nothing much you would think to do with a young man born sometime around
1819 who was tried at Bath assizes but I first pick up on a possible
member
of this
family with a Thomas Catley of Camerton (a village about 5 miles from
Bath)
who married a Lavinia Purnell in 1772.
They look to have had three sons, the eldest being Thomas b 08/04/1766 in
Camerton who married twice both at Bathwick (another district of Bath) the
second spouse being Jane Vizor or Vizer who he married in 1808.
I have six children recorded as issue from Thomas and Jane one being
Thomas
b 29/06/1817 in Holloway (yet another Bath sub district) and it occurs to
me
that this person could just possibly be Bernies long lost ancestor.
It is maybe a long shot but with nothing else having turned up, it may be
worth looking at unless that is, others have already been down this path
and
discounted it already.
Cheers
