Thank you Anthony,
A new site to me but thank's to your previous help Charles Catleys face is
instantly recognisable without the mini pop-up!
I knew from general books about the Battle of Jutland that HMS Queen Mary
was the 5th Battle Sqn's champion gunnery ship and maybe all due credit was
by way of Charles Catley's eyesight although I also seem to have read
elsewhere that she a different type of optical (no radar in those days!)
range finder and deflection calculator to her sister ships. Maybe Charles
was simply better at mastering the task of artillary accuracy?
Have copied this to John Catley who is a new researcher on the block and who
is also a member of this "Robert Catley of Garforth" family tree.
Cheers
Tim

Tim, Check out this site:
http://www.wrecksite.eu/wreck.aspx?10779 It
has
a picture we know but in addition - unfortunately without a source - the
following: 'Cats eyes Catley' was a battle cruiser legend and was largely
responsible for Queen Mary's high reputation for gunnery accuracy. Anthony
