Hi Tim,
Sorry, the 1841 Halstead census film that I got from LDS was so bad they
didn't even charge me for the hire. The family were constantly on the move,
had a shotgun wedding in Halstead before James Charles Jnr was born, then
soon moved on. There was a possibility that the James in Merv's Halstead lot
was the James, a Bailiff, who was James Charles Jnr's G/father. About as far
as I got was that James Charles snr was born in Middlesex. This line was
where I had hopes of getting the Bournemouth DNA.
Derek

Subject: [CATLEY] Halstead Catleys
Hi All,
Is Merv still on the List?
Am looking at the Halstead (Essex) Catleys and recall him putting his tree
together which started with Samuel Catley who m Hannah Bartlett in 1752
and also John Catley who m Susannah Bartlett on 1757.
The notes I have on this tree are incomplete and a quick gander at the GRO
bmd's for Halstead suggest that it is more extensive that I first thought.
If Merv is unobtainable, has anybody else done any work here?
Maybe Derek has because he has a James Charles Catley on his tree who was
a police constable born Halstead in 1848.
Am also curious by the number of GRO bmd's for Braintree, Essex and wonder
about a possible connection.
Any help anybody please?
Tim
