Hi Tim,
I am still waiting for the 1841 Halstead census film to arrive, after
ordering it 09/11/2009, so I can have another look, & maybe get a better
copy. Our films now come from America, whereas they used to come from
Sydney. Since that order, you now have to order online, but as soon as I
registered a miniscule list of countries pops up, just Europe & USA by what
I could see.
I did make contact with Merv at another address after he seemed to drop off
the list, but unfortunately I cannot remember what it was.
I don't know when James Charles Catley snr arrived in Halstead, nor his
wife, who herself is a bit of a mystery. At the time I contacted Merv about
his James, I didn't have the information that James Charles snr was born in
Middlesex. Then other things cropped up, & I haven't compared the two, I
must do that one day.
Derek

Hi Derek,
So your family's connection with Halstead was purely transient then and
probably no connection with Merv's lot.
A good look at the GRO's from 1840 onwards indicates that there is a lot
more to Catley activity there than Merv captured in his own tree
researches
and I need to converse with him to see if he has done any more work.
Thank you for the response anyway.
Tim
