Yes plenty of questions!
Can you verify that John Catley who married Mary Livermore 21/09/1762 Gt
Chesterford are the parents of William bt 1763 and John bt 1771 ?
Also that John Catley who was bt 15/04/1741 Gt Chesterford, was son of John
Catley and Bennet Jeffrey?
Also that John (Ketley) married Bennet Jeffrey 23/12/1735 also Gt
Chesterford?
The above John may be the one born 10/12/1708 son of John and Mary.
If all fits, then we may have another tree :- John Catley of Gt Chesterford
1708.

Liz & Anthony,
A footnote for the 'Chesterford Catleys' - ref my posting:
UK, Register of Duties Paid for Apprentices' Indentures, 1710-1811
Samuel STONES of Chesterford, Essex, Glasier – Will: Son of John CATLY of D
(sic), Yeoman
Tax paid: 9 Nov 1732 - Indentures: 25 Sep.
I imagine the 'D' will be 'Do' which in turn could then relate to
'Chesterford'.
On the new FamilySearch website the batch no. P00833-1 returns a host of
'Great Chesterford' Catlley/Catlen entries stretching back to 1613, which I
guess you will already be familiar with.
There is a William Catley bapt. 9 Sep 1712, son of John who might be a match
for the apprenticeship record above, although ideally a later bapt. would
have been preferable.

Hi Liz,
I am studying William's will. He owned a great amount of leasehold property
in Cambridge particularly in Park, Round Church and Bridge Streets but even
in two other parishes. Of significance he had property in Great Chesterford
on High Street and Cow Lane, the latter occupied by his sister Elizabeth. He
left bequests of £5 each to his brother John Catley and his sister Elizabeth
(surname not specified).
There is a possible match on FamilySearch at Great Chesterford: William
Catley son of John and Mary Catley was baptized 20 October 1763. The brother
might then be John Catley son of John Catley baptized July 1771. There is
also an Elizabeth Catlin daughter of John Catlin baptized January 1774.
Although Cow Lane is still there, I did not find it on the 1841 census.
There are three Elizabeths of about the right age in Great Chesterton and my
money is on Elizabeth Weeden because this surname occurs as a witness to the
London marriage of one of John's kids.
The short version is William of Park Street and John the porter at Jesus are
more likely to be brothers than not.
Anthony

Hi Anthony,
I have details of this. The marriage for John and Rebecca Haye was 3/10/1797
Mary was baptized 6/5/1798
There was also William born 30/3/1804 bap 5/8/1804 died 11/12/1826
Louisa bap 18/1/1816 died 4/3/1831
Elizabeth bap 7/2/1808 died 1/7/1810
Elisa bap 25/12/1813 died 27/3/1814
There is also a marriage between a William and Isobella Elliot 6/10/1807.
William on the 41 census was born about 1760 but not in Cambridge and I did
wonder whether he and John where brothers. Baptisms came under the Holy
Sepulchre for both lots of kids. What do you think.

Subject: [CATLEY] Great Chesterford Catleys
John Catley late porter of Jesus College
His will was dated Great Chesterford 12 August 1843 and proved 17 January
1844. It provides a connection to Great Chesterford showing he inherited
property there from his mother (unnamed but a Mary Catley aged 80 was buried
9 May 1823 at All Saints Great Chesterford). The will names a son, three
daughters with spouses and the granddaughter of a fourth daughter deceased.
Tracing these leads it becomes clear his wife was Rebecca.
John Catley was born about 1776 and Rebecca (Rebekah) about 1778 (calculated
from 1841 Census). John Catley aged 73 was buried 14 December 1843 at All
Saints Great Chesterford. Rebekah Catley aged 70 was buried 16 November 1842
at All Saints Great Chesterford. A possible match for this marriage is John
Catley married Rebecca Haye 1797 at Gravely Cambs. (Pallot’s Marriage
Index).
Rebecca Catley their daughter was baptized 17 March 1806 at Cambridge. She
married Joseph Moore porter of Jesus College by licence 8 January 1830 at
All Saints Cambridge. A daughter Emily Catley Moore was baptized 8 August
1830 at St Andrew the Less Cambridge. Rebecca had died by 1843 (will)
Ann Catley was born 17 August 1809 and baptized 14 October 1810 at
Cambridge. She married William Hodson of Great Chesterford 21 April 1831 at
St Andrew the Less Cambridge. Note that a William Hodgson aged 8 was with
John and Rebecca in 1841.
John Catley was baptized 27 October 1811 at Cambridge.
Mary Catley birth not found but around 1806 (1841 Census). She married
Samuel Giles at West Hackney on 11 September 1838. Samuel Giles was full
age, widower, baker, of Robinson’s Row, Kingsland; father Samuel Giles,
mariner. Mary Catley was full age, spinster, of Kingsland; father John
Catley, college porter. Witnesses were J. Catley and Betsy Weedon.
Harriet Catley was baptized 16 February 1817 at Cambridge. She married Jacob
Wisby 1 July 1840 at St Andrew the Less Cambridge. Jacob Wisby was full age,
bachelor, tea dealer, of St James Street; father Jacob, farmer.. Harriet
Catley was full age, spinster, of New Square; father John, porter of Jesus
College. Witnesses were Charles Vinter and Maria Stackwood.
