Hello Jocelyn,
You may not be surprised by the Y37 match between Catley and Keatley but I
am!
We have seen numerous phonetic alternative spellings to the root Catley name
which
crop up in parish records (not so bothered about census returns) but never
this one
and now to have a dna match as well is a real puzzler! You also mention that
you
have not added a single Keatley to your research list : this rather proves
my point.
Yes, naturally I am in communication with the Keatley dna provider and am
waiting
for his sister to respond, she is the genealogist in the family........think
they are
American.
Like you, I too have 1331 12 marker exact matches.....seems suspiciously odd
that we both should have the exact same number?
Agree with you that FTDNA are slack in advising when matches occur, it all
seems
very hit and miss to me and am also in agreement with you as to why on earth
Y37
matches do not necessarily show up at the Y12 level as well, logic tells me
they
should.
When last we wrote on the subject of record collation, you were going to
concentrate
on the 1800-1850 period and let me have any research results. I last heard
that you
were majoring on the Horne area......if you have any results, they would be
appreciated.
Regards
Tim

Hi there Tim,
OK you have got my attention ! Am not overly surprised with a match such
as
this, but it's still exciting.
I wouldn't say that I am specialising in alternative derivations of
Catley,
it started when I was looking at alternative spellings for the Horne
Surrey
Catleys. I haven't done anything with that list for a long time I'm sorry,
and should send it to you. I have just looked at it and I haven't added a
single Keatley. Have you contacted the person to see if you can identify a
link. Isn't any link still quite some distance back ?
I have 2 Y37 marker distance 4 matches - Bean(e). I haven't been getting
very many email alerts about matches. I have 1331 exact 12 marker matches.
I
assume you do too. They have added some nice features.
Regards
Tim

Jocelyn,
Seeing as you are specialising in researching alternative derivations of
our
root Catley surname, you may be interested to learn that Familytreedna
have
contacted me today informing of another Y37 marker distance 4 match that
has
been found against my dna profile.
You will possibly recall that I already have one at that level which is
with
a member of the Edmund Catley of Bilton line thus showing that a common
ancestor links the Stevan Catlay of Normanton tree with the Bilton clan.
This second match however sparks off some speculation as the donors
surname
is :- Keatley !
Regards
Tim
