There is a second Catley record in the new batch posted on Ancestry. Mary Catley of Brick
Lane, St Matthew, Bethnal Green, Middlesex died intestate in November 1825. Administration
was granted 30 June 1827 to "her natural and lawful daughter and one of her next of
kin" Mary Fryett wife of Samuel Fryett of Gloucester Place, Gloucester Street,
Commercial Road, Middlesex. The bondsmen were Samuel Fryett, potter; Crosby Smith of
Charles Street, Mile End Old Town, cordwainer; and Joseph Bay of Little Bacon Street,
Bethnal Green, [profession not deciphered possibly weaver].
Who were the two Marys? There is a marriage of Samuel Fryett and Mary Brett, both of Mile
End Old Town, at St Dunstan and All Saints Stepney on 19 February 1809 but I have been
unable to link either Fryett or Brett with Catley. (He is not the Samuel Fryett who
married Elizabeth Child in 1810 about whom much more is known.)
Any insight would be appreciated. Could the widow Mary have been related by marriage to
William Catley of Aldgate?
