Hello Liz,Mick,Elaine,
I know there has been some discussion between you in the past but am playing
"catchup" on this subject.
www.bradshaw32.plus.com/family/listC suggests that the Joseph Catley who m Sarah
Wilderspin (14/08/1831) at St Andrew's Cambridge, was from Melbourn as found in the
1841/51/61/71 census. The info contained on this web site suggests that Joseph and Sarah
had children :-
Mary A bt St Andrew's 1833
Sarah bt ditto 1837
William bt ditto 1840
Eliza bt ditto 1844
The IGI for this marriage suggests that Joseph was born abt 1806.
I can not identify a suitable "fit" for this Joseph unless he is the person
subjected to a settlement order in 1793 (Melbourn to Royston) or, more unlikely, the
Joseph from the James Catley of Barley tree bt 15/07/1798, son of William and Ann Clark.
Furthermore, my records suggest that Joseph and Sarah's children differ from that
shown above, ie :-
William bt 30/06/1833 St Andrew's Cambridge died 1838 . bur St Andrew's
Elizabeth F bt in 1835 ditto
Sarah Ann bt 04/02/1838 ditto
William bt 19/04/1840 ditto
John Francis bt 16/01/1843 ditto
Eliza Fitch bt 01/06/1845 ditto
George Fitch bt 01/02/1853.
1852 shows Joseph & Sarah plus their 5/7 surviving children emigrating ex Liverpool to
Port Adelaide S.Au.
Q1 : Can you (have you) identify Joseph's birth and or connection with Melbourn?
Q2 : Have you 'connected' him to either the Joseph of Melbourn or James of Barley
family trees?
Q3 : Has anybody done a study on children William, John Francis and George in
Australia...is there a resulting tree from them?
Q4 : My records for the area N.E Herts / N.W.Essex / S.W. Cambs (1613-2009) show some 1209
Catley bmd events yet only about 40% of them can be explained by the known Joseph of
Melbourn and James of Barley trees :-
Q5 : Is anybody researching this mass of unidentified Cat*leys?
Tim
