Hi Liz
Plausible that the deceased wine merchant George was a Cattley and the curate wrongly
assumed he shared the groom's surname. Cannot find a marriage to tie this up. Things
went a bit downhill for poor Mc Augustus (who did not use the Mc bit). At one census he is
a clerk unemployed. Later he found work as a raw silk packer and porter. There were no
children at the time of the censuses.
Anthony

Hi Anthony
I only found it by accident whilst looking for the McInnes name for a
friend. On my first email I found the record as written on BMDrootsweb. So
there is no gap between the Mc and Augustus. Could Eliza have remarried a
McInnes hence the name Catley McInnes. The only merchants I know are from
Tim's family.

Using Catley db as a lead found a record of McAugustus son of George
and
Eliza Cattley baptized St Mary Whitechapel 18 May 1830. George was a wine
merchant. So now we know where Cat(t)ley came from - the mystery is the
McInnes bit. Anthony
