Hi Andrew,
The parish records for MSN have been lost prior to 1697 but would the BT
still survive and if so where would you find them.

Subject: [CATLEY] Thomas of Welton eliglbe for jury service 1748.
Came across the following whilst looking for something else in Bath
Reference Library and thought that those of you descended from Thomas of
Welton might be interested.
Regards
Andrew
From the Somerset Jurors list 1748, transcribed by Adrian James Webb
"A duplicate of the Names and Places of Abode of all such Persons qualified
to serve on Juries...delivered to the Justices of the Peace in open court in
the General Quarter Session of the Peace held in and for the County
aforesaid at the Castle of Taunton on Tuesday, the fourth day of October in
the twenty second year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the
Second...."
"Thomas Catley of Welton Tything, Chewton Hundred."
There was no record in this source that he actually was called to serve on a
jury.
Context;
7-8 William III c32 (1695-6)
Made provision for an annual return from parish constables to Quarter
Sessions of a list of those qualified to serve on a jury. To be eligible a
man had to be aged 21-70, with land worth more than £10 a year, or a
leasehold to the value of £20 or more a year.
3 George II c25 (1729-30)
Any parish officer can inspect the Poor Rates, Land Tax etc and extract
names of persons qualified, each year, at least 20 days before the feast of
St Michael the Archangel, and upon two or more Sundays affix to the door of
the parish church, or any other place of worship, a true and exact list of
all such persons intended to be returned to the Quarter Sessions of the
Justices of the Peace.
